Carl Berg Projects is pleased to present new paintings by Joshua Aster at its new space (B266) at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood. Aster is a recent graduate from the UCLA MFA program (2007) and over the last few years has been exploring the process of applying paint to canvas through various techniques. In his upcoming exhibition Aster continues his search of mark making through various processes creating a body of work in which each painting is visually distinctive.
Aster explores a multitude of painting techniques in these new works using mostly nontraditional tools. With these tools Aster both applies and removes paint from the canvas creating works that are both subtle and nuanced. Each painting becomes a separate and distinctive expression as Aster explores the mixing and matching of processes forming a body of work that is related but not serial in nature.
